BECKWITH RACES TO FIRST NEWSOME RACEWAY PARTS CRUSA WIN AT THE MAG

COLUMBUS, MS – Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS found a centerpiece for his trophy case after driving the Beckwith Forestry Service Rocket to his first career Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series win on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Beckwith found the inside groove to his liking and took the lead on lap 25 for a $3,000 victory.

“I’ve raced a lot of these Crate Racin’ USA races through the years, and I always wanted one of those Gold Helmet Trophies,” Beckwith said. “It feels great to get one because they’re so hard to win. I found the fast way around on the bottom at the right time to get the lead, then the track took rubber, so it was just a matter of staying there and not making a mistake.”

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL finished second in the Bud Coley Trucking Special, and Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS took the third spot in the Ellis Specialty Welding Rocket after leading the first 24 laps of the 50-lap race. Shaw and Ellis caught Beckwith in the last ten laps of the race, but dared not to leave the sweet spot of the race track.

The 2020 Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, GA was fourth in the 5m Construction Rocket. Herrington made some bold moves early in the race to earn the VP Racing Lubricants Slick Move of the Race Award.

Jody Knowles of Tyrone, GA earned a prize from his cousin Jake Knowles, as he started 19th and finished fifth in the Clayton Signs/Gentry’s Used Auto Parts Stinger to win the Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Hard Charger of the Race Award. Tyler Wood of Hohenwald, TN was sixth in the Johns Farms Special.

Corey Dunn of Milledgeville, GA finished seventh to earn the Fullmoon Graphics “Lucky 7” Award and was the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Race driving the Georgia Timber CVR. Oakley Johns of Hohenwald, TN took the eighth spot in the Shoals Box and Pallet Special, and T.J. Brittain of Centre, AL was ninth in the Brittain Hauling Warrior. Jamie Pickard of Columbus, MS rounded out the top ten in the Academy Fence Company Special.

In preliminary action, Shaw was the Boyd Built Fabricators/Ace Portable Buildings Fast Qualifier among the 31 entrants with a lap around Magnolia Motor Speedway in 15.091 seconds. The two ten-lap KRC Power Steering B-Main Races were won by Wood and Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS in the B&M Salvage Rocket.

When the green flag dropped to start the 50-lap race, Shaw took the lead from the pole followed by Beckwith from the fourth starting spot, Ellis from the outside of the front row, Johns, and Pickard. The start was negated when a multi-car pile-up in turn one blocked the track and brought out the red flag to necessitate a complete restart.

Ellis prevailed on the restart followed by Shaw, Beckwith, Pickard, and Cameron Weaver of Crossville, TN in the Weaver Racing Special. The second of four caution flags came out on lap three when Dewayne Estes of Sturgis, MS cut down a left-rear tire on the Estes Racing Special.

Ellis led the field for the Dixie-Style Double-File Restart with Shaw, Beckwith, Weaver, Pickard, Johns, Grant Pearl of Anniston, AL in the Steering Buddy Special, Herrington, Wood and Matthew Brocato of Muscle Shoals, AL in the Valley Metal Fabrication Special doubled up behind him in second through tenth respectively.

Pickard drove by Weaver on the restart to take the fourth spot, and Herrington sailed around Pearl and Johns to take over the sixth spot. Ellis caught the cars on the tail end of the lead lap on lap nine, while Weaver reclaimed the fourth spot getting back by Pickard. Herrington moved into the top five on lap 11 getting by Pickard.

Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL stalled the High Roller Race Cars Special in turn two on lap 13 to bring out the caution flag. The top ten respectively for the double-file restart was Ellis, Shaw, Beckwith, Weaver, Herrington, Pickard, Johns, Wood, Pearl and Brocato. Business picked up when the green flag came out with wholesale position changes.

Beckwith took over the second spot from Shaw, and Herrington got by Weaver for the fourth spot. The top five cars were running the top groove, just inches away from the wall. Herrington dove to the bottom of the track on lap 14 to wrestle away the third spot from Shaw.

Just when Ellis caught lapped traffic on lap 21, the caution flag came out on lap 22 when Brocato had a mechanical issue and stalled in turn one. The restart saw Ellis leading followed by Beckwith, Herrington, Shaw, Weaver, Pickard, Wood, Johns, Pearl and Dunn. After the field went green, Shaw went to the bottom to pass Herrington for the third spot.

Shaw then tried to get under Beckwith for second on lap 23 but fell just short of making the pass. Seeing the success Shaw had on the inside, Beckwith dove for the bottom groove on lap 25 and passed Ellis for the lead.

Ellis tried to solder on using the top shelf of The Mag, but Shaw drove under him on lap 27 to take over the second spot. Weaver followed suit and drove under Herrington for the fourth spot. Ellis caught the lapped cars on lap 33, and as the more laps clicked off, the heavier the traffic got. This enabled Shaw and Ellis to close in on Beckwith.

Weaver spun out of the fourth spot on lap 39 and his car rolled to the infield and the field stayed green. At the front of the pack, Ellis stayed on the bottom, while Shaw and Ellis knew if they left the sweet spot of the race track, they would risk losing spots. Ellis cleared the lapped cars with three laps to go and pulled away taking the checkered flag with a 1.124 second margin of victory,
