Thunderhill Raceway Park "King of the Hill" Event Revised for August 6-8

Thunderhill Raceway Park "King of the Hill" Event Revised for August 6-8

ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Crate Racin’ USA and Thunderhill Raceway Park Officials have had to adjust the Inaugural “King of the Hill” event at the high-banked Summertown, TN oval scheduled for August 6th-8th, 2020. Track officials were informed in the last week that two primary sponsors for the inaugural event would be unable to fulfill their commitments to the event due to cutbacks in their marketing because of the COVID 19 global pandemic. After exhausting all avenues to replace those sponsors over the last week, and with the event quickly approaching, track and series officials have made the call to change the event to a $7,500 to win, $400 to start event.

“Jason Walker(promoter/owner of Thunderhill Raceway Park) reached out to me last week after getting the last minute decision by two major sponsors for the event alerting him to their inability to uphold their commitment due to the COVID 19 pandemic,” stated Crate Racin’ USA Series Director Adam Stewart. “With the timing and situation that Jason was put in, we decided to find a middle ground that would make the race sustainable for the track and also keep the purse up to par for the competitors as well. Jason and I worked on a purse structure that made the event more financially viable for him and will still put good money in the racer’s pocket.”

The event will still see Open Practice for ALL divisions on Thursday night August 6th. Friday August 7th will feature BoydBilt Fabrication Pole Qualifying and KRC Power Steering Heat Races to determine the first few rows of Saturday night’s 60-lap, $7,500 to win event. Saturdays schedule will feature B-Mains to determine the remainder of the starting field and the 60-lap Main event.

With the revisions to the event taking place with short notice, one thing that was determined to remain the same was leaving the start money at $400 for the feature event starters, and entry fee will be reduced to $150. Also, track promoter Walker has decided that if the race draws 41 entries or more, he will add a Non-Qualifier event that will pay $400 to win, paying the top 10 places, with the winner of the Non-Qualifier having the option of forfeiting his Non-Qualifier win and starting 25th in the feature. This will help give back to the competitors for supporting the event and allows the opportunity for more drivers to take home money.

The action set to get underway on Thursday night August 6th with Open Practice for ALL divisions. Gates will open at 5 P.M. with Practice from 6-10 P.M. Friday August 7th, Pit Gates will Open at 5 P.M., Grandstands will Open at 6:30 P.M. with Driver’s Meeting slated for 7:30 and Hot Laps to follow. Then on Saturday August 8th, Pit Gates Open at 3 P.M., Grandstand Gates Open at 4:30, with Driver’s Meeting set for 6:30 and Hot Laps to follow. Also on Saturday night, the Chevrolet Performance “Fan Zone” will take place during intermission where the drivers will come to the Grandstand Fan Zone to see the fans and give autographs, hero cards and be available for meet and greet.
