Unfavorable Weather Forces Cancellation of Battle by the Bay

Unfavorable Weather Forces Cancellation of Battle by the Bay

(Eastaboga, AL – August 29, 2024) – The highly anticipated return of the Rogers-Dabbs Performance Parts Crate Racin' USA Dirt Late Model Series and Street Stocks to East Bay Raceway Park for the Battle by the Bay has been canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions.

On Monday, the track site was drenched with over four inches of rain with another inch added on Tuesday. Existing conditions make certain areas needed for operation impassable due to poor drainage. With the forecast predicting a 50 to 60 percent chance of rain for the Labor Day weekend, track and series officials faced an increasingly challenging situation. After thorough consideration, the difficult decision was made to cancel the racing program.

CRUSA Series Director Adam Stewart, expressed the disappointment of the weekend being canceled, “Canceling events is never easy, but it's the right thing to do for driver safety. Al Varnadore and his staff have done all they can do, but sometimes you just can't beat Mother Nature. With the current economic pressures and the significant travel involved for many teams, the decision to cancel was necessary.”

Stewart also reflected on the significance of East Bay Raceway Park, saying, “This place will be missed. So much history is tied to East Bay, and its racing action has always been exceptional. It’s safe to say there will never be another East Bay. The entire dirt racing community will miss this place deeply.”

Looking ahead, the CRUSA Series will now focus on their upcoming event at Waycross Motor Speedway. The one-day feature event will offer a $10,000-to-win prize and marks the series’ return to Waycross after a nine-year hiatus. The schedule for the event is as follows Pit Gates Open: 3:00 PM, Grandstands Open: 4:00 PM, Drivers Meeting: 6:30 PM, Hot Laps: 7:00 PM with racing to follow.

Waycross will also feature Superstreet, Street Stock, Crown Vic Jr., and Enduros for the racing action that night. There will be an open practice on Friday night, September 13th.

Waycross Motor Speedway is located at 2101 Knight Avenue in Waycross, GA 31503. More information can be found by calling 912-283-0900 or by accessing www.wayxspeedway.com.
