Boyd’s, Senoia on Horizon for Crate Racin’ USA

EASTABOGA, Ala. (Aug. 17) — A doubleheader weekend will carry Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series drivers to a pair of tracks in a single weekend as current series points leader Jason Welshan leads the popular Adam Stewart-managed touring circuit into a busy weekend that starts Friday night, Aug. 19, 2022, with Heroes Night in America at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Ga.

The opening event of the two-race weekend pays $3,000-to-win at the third-mile facility, while the second race slated Saturday night, Aug. 20, at 3/8-mile Senoia (Ga.) Raceway offers the same winner’s share. It marks the organization’s return to Boyd’s for the first time in several years, and the second visit of the season to Senoia. The touring circuit last visited Senoia on July 16, and that event drew an eye-opening 49-car field for a $3,000-to-win show at the Pollard family-promoted facility.

“We’re looking forward to our return to Boyd’s, and also to another visit to Senoia Raceway considering the large field we had there earlier this season,” Crate Racin’ USA series director Adam Stewart said. “Our car counts have been strong for much of the season. It’s been a good year for the organization despite all of the challenges facing the sport in a difficult economy, but that 49-car field even surprised me. We’ll be looking for another strong field at both tracks, and a weekend full of solid racing action.”

Welshan, who finished second to Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., in last year’s points standings by a slim 22-point margin, currently holds a 68-point edge over Jake Knowles in this year’s chase for the championship that’s worth $10,000 to the overall titlist.

Welshan has secured two victories this season in the 10 races held thus far, claiming $10,000 in the prestigious J.T. Kerr Memorial on June 25 at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn., and adding another victory worth $5,000 a week later on July 2 in the Salute to America Nationals at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.
